# Colophon.
This site has been around since 1996 or so. For most of its lifespan, it has been developed using hand-coded HTML, and eventually CSS, a dalliance with Apple iWeb notwithstanding.
More recently, I've become enamored with Markdown and have been using that as the basis for my posting. Originally, I wrote a custom markdown-to-HTML converter, but I've since switched to [Obsidian Publish](https://obsidian.md/publish)[^1] and a custom CSS file for formatting. I'm loving Obsidian Publish because I can publish directly from my phone, and because it lets me do things like tables and footnotes without having to write even more conversion code for each feature.
I'm still using Taco HTML Edit from the now-closed [Taco Software](https://web.archive.org/web/20230529025828/http://www.tacosw.com/) for HTML and CSS tweaking and testing. Thanks, Taco, whoever you were.
The typeface is [Roboto](https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Roboto)[^3], served up via Google Fonts.
As far as I know, this site does not use any trackers, cookies, affiliate links, or anything else[^2]. There are several links to products on Amazon, but I have tried to remove all tracking and referral information from these URLs.
Some stories on this website may have been embellished, mis-remembered, totally made up, or a combination of all three. Nothing on this website was generated using AI, unless otherwise clearly specified.
A few style choices (largely for my own reference):
- Em dashes for asides – but with spaces before and after – because I like them that way
- It's ok to start sentences with "And" or "So"
- Punctuation goes outside of quotes at the end of a "sentence"!
- "Less" means smaller; "fewer" means not as many. This is evolving quickly in English, but I'm sticking to the old way for now.

[^1]: Yes, it costs money. Yes, it's worth it.
[^2]: Unless you count Google Fonts.
[^3]: Previously, the primary typeface was [Overpass](https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Overpass), designed by [Delve Withrington](https://delvefonts.com/fonts/overpass/), [Dave Bailey](https://www.deltabravotype.com/about), and [Thomas Jockin](http://www.thomasjockin.com/), and served up via Google Fonts. Titles were Crete Round, also from Google Fonts.
