deconstructing a giant
When we first moved from Chicago to Silicon Valley, Ilana took a job at IBM in their Storage Systems Division. It was a substantial place, with a long and storied history, secured doors, document shredders, and a campus full of big-shouldered buildings.
Ilana moved on to another job, IBM sold the Storage Systems Division to Hitachi, and now all that authoritative infrastructure is being demolished, building-by-building, to make way for retail and housing.
Nothing is permanent.
