iPhone loses an email

So I've opened a new email on my iPhone, but it hasn't downloaded the
content yet, when my hand slips and I accidentally hit the trash can
icon. Zoop, my email gets sucked into the trash can.

Hrm, no undo here. What is the Apple approach to something like this?
Ah, yes, go to the Trash, open the email there, and move it back to the
inbox. So I go to the Trash and open my message there ... although it
still won't download the content. And then I hit the icon to refile it,
choose the Inbox, and get a message saying it can't be filed in the
Inbox.

So I try it a couple more times, eventually force-quitting the Mail
application, and then try it one more time. This time the email
disappears from my Trash ... then I get the message saying it can't be
refiled ... and the the message disappears completely. Not in the
Inbox, not in the Trash, nowhere.

Gack. Thank goodness I'm on POP instead of IMAP. At least I can go
read it on the web.
